Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival is calling for Screenplay Entries for its 23rd annual competition. The Festival is accepting screenplays in all genres. Screenplays must have been written after 2017.

Screenplays entered into the competition will be adjudicated by a distinguished panel of industry professionals, educators, peers and film fans. The Grand Prize winner will become a central focus during ScriptBiz™ the screenplay pitch forum held during the Festival. The Grand Prize winner will also receive prizes valued at over $10,000. This includes travel, up to four nights accommodations, Final Draft software and screenplay promotions. Since the contest winners are announced following the main Festival, the Grand Prize winner’s work will be a focal point for RIIFF 2019 with the official trophy presented at the Festival's Opening Night Celebration.

Screenplays will be judged on creativity, innovation, vision, originality and the use of language. The key element is that of communication and how it complements and is transformed by the language of film.

The deadline for 2018 screenplay submissions is July 15, 2018. Very Important: Winners will be announced by October 9, 2018 (over Columbus Day Weekend).

Note, as this is important: The Screenplay Competition follows the main Festival since it allows us time to read the entries carefully and discuss the reviews with our adjudicators. As this competition is designed, the grand prize screenplay then becomes a focal point for the next Festival the following August.

There are three areas in which you can submit:

• FULL-LENGTH SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
Full-length screenplay competition. Scripts not to exceed 130 double-spaced pages. Feature scripts are accepted from any genre, from any lifestyle orientation and from within and/or outside the US. Please contact us directly if you have questions, or your screenplay is longer.

• TELEPLAY/SHORT SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
Teleplay/Short screenplay competition. Scripts not to exceed 40 double-spaced pages for half hour programs/70 pages for a one hour teleplay. Screenplays accepted from any genre, from any lifestyle orientation and from within and/or outside the US.

• SPOTLIGHT ON RHODE ISLAND
(Full-length and short screenplay)
For screenwriters, Rhode Island’s diverse landscape can be a character all unto itself. And a state with so much character makes for great stories. Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) is now accepting entries for its 2018 Spotlight on Rhode Island Screenplay Competition. RIIFF invites talented screenwriters from around the world to submit their original screenplays whose characters and locations anchor the story in Rhode Island. Entries can be A. feature film (max. 130 pages), B. movie of the week (max. 100 pages), or C. television pilot (max. 40 pages for a half hour program/70 pages for a one-hour teleplay), and must be in standard industry formats. Scripts may be in any genre, present day or historic period. Adaptations of novels/books are not acceptable unless submitted by the author. Writers must also supply a log line and short synopsis. Finalist scripts will be read and judged by industry professionals.

PLEASE NOTE:
(IMPORTANT: The actual Notification Date is Columbus Day Weekend in October 2019, not as cited in WAB as August 5th. WAB's system does not allow us to list the date beyond the start of the August film festival. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to send an e-mail to: georget@film-festival.org.) Once you've entered our competition, you will receive monthly emails. Please be sure to not "spam" these eblasts as we will not be able to re-entered that email into our communication system.

THE LATINO SCREENWRITING COMPETITION
Designed to inspire and empower emerging Latino writers and producers, and any storyteller looking to tell great stories about our varied communities.

We are a team of writers, directors, producers, and executives who are passionate about cinema and dedicated to the success of the next generation of talented Latino filmmakers from all over North and South America. We want to support storytellers who are already passionate about generating narrative content about our communities in the United States and abroad - from inner city Los Angeles, New York, and Miami to the tip of Argentina to Chile, Bolivia, and Brazil, the Caribbean, Central America, and Latinos around the world.

We value all of our stories from tales about revolution in El Salvador to the U.S. Military, from the Pope to the Governors Mansions in three states, to the favelas of Sao Paulo and the beaches of Rio. We want to support you in telling all of your stories. We want to create a platform for the stories that have shaped – and continue to shape – our lives and the communities we live in. We hope that the scripts and films generated will increase the number of Latinos working in the film industry and geometrically increase the number of stories told about our culture in both Hollywood and abroad.

We are a passionate group of writers, artists, and executives who love writers. In fact, we care so deeply about developing the next generation of filmmakers from the U.S. and abroad that we founded what we hope will be one of the most prestigious screenwriting competitions in the world for serious writers and serious subject matter.

We work in the industry, but a lot of us come from backgrounds in journalism, publishing, and in some cases some very grisly real life experiences and we like serious subject matter. A lot of other festivals do as well, but that’s really all we are interested in. We are only really interested in finding the next Schindler’s List, Judgement at Nuremburg, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, Lincoln, Reservoir Dogs, 12 Years a Slave, the Godfather, Sling Blade, Frida, or even Shine.

We want to support serious writers who take on serious subject matter. That’s what we’re all about. We are located in the heart of California and are proud to be the only international screenwriting competition in the Bay Area. We are committed to fostering the careers of local talent as well as finding the next generation of talent from New York, Hollywood, Toronto, and around the world.

We want to connect up and coming artists with the agents and managers that will ultimately put them in front of the producers who will get their films made. We love movies and the artists who make them and we are committed to seeing more of you get your films made. As such, we are committed to having the most prolific distribution list of any screenwriting competition. We not only want our winner’s scripts in the hands of people who can do something with them, we want their scripts in the hands of people who will do something with them.

Men and women have been making great films for over a century now and we want to continue that tradition. We want to develop writers and filmmakers to work in every facet of production. We want to support writers at all levels to make great films all over the world. We love film and we love filmmakers. And we want to do everything we can to support and inspire the next generation of filmmakers to tell great stories that will be told for generations to come.

We are a team of artists that want nothing more than to support the next generation of filmmakers and screenwriters from around the world. Specifically, those storytellers that passionate about telling stories about our communities in the U.S. and abroad, from inner city Atlanta, LA, New York, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, and Milwaukee to Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean, to Wall Street and the streets of London to the NBA.

African-American stories are as vast and varied as any culture’s and not enough of them are being told so we want to support the artists who are telling them so we can see more of them on the silver screen. And yes, we take submissions from artists from around the world of any sex, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, White, Black, Latin, Asian, Arab, and everything in between. We believe in, support, and practice creating diversity in the workplace and support artists of all ethnicities.

Our goal is to inspire more black authors to write, more black stories to go into production, and to connect production companies that tell our stories to the exceptionally talented storytellers who are writing them. We want to inspire generations of filmmakers to tell great stories that will inspire future generations to tell great stories.
