Most screenwriting competitions accept as many scripts as possible, and then take months and months to select a winner. The entire time, the screenwriters are often asking, “How many scripts am I up against?” How long is this going to take?

100 SCREENPLAYS was created when one of the judges at Screenplay Festival, had an idea, “What if we hold a contest where we limited the number of entries to one hundred? We could get the judging done quickly. The writers would know who they are up against. The whole thing would be different.” This idea got kicked around the office until it grew into 100 SCREENPLAYS.

Now, instead of sending off your script and waiting ages to hear the results, you can enter your script and find out if you won in one month. And the entire time you never have to wonder how many scripts you are up against. (This is one of the most common questions Screenplay Festival receives.) On top of that, your chance of winning is greatly increased by the 100 script limit.

As part of the ÉCU 2019 film festival, the script competition’s focus is on independent screenplays, that is, scripts that aren’t aimed at mainstream Hollywood film markets. Writers are invited to submit their short and feature-length scripts to the competition where they compete for the best script of the festival.

The two overall winners will receive an additional prize and the coveted title of Best Feature Script / Best Short Script 2019 – a title we are certain will help emerging writers overcome the obstacle of “representation” and get their scripts read by the right people.

OUR MISSION

Inspired by the idea of a cultural revival, we recognize that the digital revolution creates the conditions for a New Renaissance, opening a door for a different set of stories to be told.

OUR MISSION

Film is a unique medium, and the New Renaissance Film Festival’s mission is to support and champion the best upcoming filmmakers and screenwriters in this new era, to fulfill their dream in telling their stories.

We focus on the ARTIST, on the STORY and on building an international COMMUNITY of inspiring storytellers.

Our passion is to tell great stories.
ONE OF THE TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS TO KNOW ABOUT!

NRFF was featured recently in the London METRO’s list of TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS among some very distinguished company, including Raindance and Aesthetica.

As of September 2016, we were ranked in the top 100 best reviewed film festivals on FilmFreeway.

We have been privileged to screen world and UK premiers at our festival that went on to win an Oscar! We have also found that filmmakers, screenwriters and actors create new projects from meeting each other at the festival.

A FESTIVAL FOR INSPIRING ARTISTS, STORIES AND STORYTELLERS

This festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way.

NRFF London has several categories for UK and International filmmakers and screenwriters, but very close to our hearts is the YOUNG TALENT AWARD. This is a special award for screenwriting, short films and acting that will be presented to young talent (up to 24 years of age). In 2018 the award was presented by First Flights, an initiative from Goldfinch Film Studios, a film production company which looks for new directors to work with.

NRFF LONDON 2019

2019 will be our fourth year in London, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. We will screen around 120 narrative shorts, features, documentaries, animations and music videos over the course of the festival (as many as we can), finishing with an AWARDS CEREMONY.

Running alongside the festival will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION and a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, a filmmaker's PANEL DISCUSSION, Filmmaker Q&A's, and other networking opportunities.

Key Dates:

Submissions for 2019 will begin at the end of August 2018. Please read our guidelines (see below) and competition terms before doing so. The festival will take place in August 2019, and all contestants will be notified at least 6 weeks prior to the event.

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

NRFF is growing from the ground up. Our festival was successfully launched in London 2016. Our goal is to enhance the vitality of independent filmmaking with these annual festivals.

Each city will engage with different themes and communities, including the LGBT community, giving independents the recognition they deserve.

We are a passionate group of writers, artists, and executives who love writers. In fact, we care so deeply about developing the next generation of filmmakers from the U.S. and abroad that we founded what we hope will be one of the most prestigious screenwriting competitions in the world for serious writers and serious subject matter.

We work in the industry, but a lot of us come from backgrounds in journalism, publishing, and in some cases some very grisly real life experiences and we like serious subject matter. A lot of other festivals do as well, but that’s really all we are interested in. We are only really interested in finding the next Schindler’s List, Judgement at Nuremburg, Saving Private Ryan, Shawshank Redemption, Lincoln, Reservoir Dogs, 12 Years a Slave, the Godfather, Sling Blade, Frida, or even Shine.

We want to support serious writers who take on serious subject matter. That’s what we’re all about. We are located in the heart of California and are proud to be the only international screenwriting competition in the Bay Area. We are committed to fostering the careers of local talent as well as finding the next generation of talent from New York, Hollywood, Toronto, and around the world.

We want to connect up and coming artists with the agents and managers that will ultimately put them in front of the producers who will get their films made. We love movies and the artists who make them and we are committed to seeing more of you get your films made. As such, we are committed to having the most prolific distribution list of any screenwriting competition. We not only want our winner’s scripts in the hands of people who can do something with them, we want their scripts in the hands of people who will do something with them.

Men and women have been making great films for over a century now and we want to continue that tradition. We want to develop writers and filmmakers to work in every facet of production. We want to support writers at all levels to make great films all over the world. We love film and we love filmmakers. And we want to do everything we can to support and inspire the next generation of filmmakers to tell great stories that will be told for generations to come.

We are passionate about film and passionate about nurturing, developing, and supporting the next generation of filmmakers from around the world. Our mission is to forge a screenwriting competition that will launch the careers of cinema’s next generation of great writers.

We want our competition to be a bridge between up and coming artists and the talent agents and managers that will ultimately put them in front of studio executives in both Canada and the US. We are also passionate about introducing them to the various producers and production teams that call our city their home.

We love all kinds of scripts and stories from studio blockbusters to art house fare. No two paths are the same and no two stories are either. We accept scripts from all over the world not just the US and Canada and from artists of all shapes and sizes, colors and ethnicities, sexes and sexual orientations.

Our city has a long history of nurturing and showcasing the most talented filmmakers in the entertainment industry. We want to give screenwriters the same level of exposure. We want to develop writers to work on studio films as well as high end independents. We want to inspire, support, and develop writers at all levels to make great films that leave others touched, moved and inspired.

We love film and we love storytellers. And we want to do everything we can to support the arts, not only locally, but around the world. Our aim is to forge a screenwriting festival that will inspire generations of filmmakers to tell great stories in the US, Canada, and abroad.

Our aim is to open doors for aspiring writers and filmmakers in all genres.

The Melbourne International Cinema Extravaganza M.I.C.E. aims to be one of Melbourne's leading cinema extravaganza, raising awareness and celebrating these wonderful totem animals- Mice.

It will attract filmmakers from all around the world and celebrate their brilliant creations. With a strong focus on all the millions of life saving mice who sacrifice their lives to the research and study of terminal illnesses/cancer world wide.

It is a unique platform for new talent and a celebration of cinematic creativity, innovation and extravagance with artists new creations being judged right here in Melbourne City.

Films with a focus on terminal illness will be welcomed to help, educate, raise awareness, and bring hope to all the sufferers and families.
Art, Music and Film is a dynamic, healing way to help sufferers and their families as well as entertain all those who come along to this wonderful celebration.

A celebration that will engage, entertain, enlighten and bring together local and International films and give recognition to these wonderful, remarkable, brave little animals with a big, corageous heart.

“I came up with this film festival idea whilst at my screening of my first film in my trilogy, FATE-It is what it is! This was at the 2013 New York City Independent Film Festival, in Time Square. New York is filled with masses of people running in all directions- like mice! Very similar to Mice in cages of scientific research and health trials. These humans were like mice, all going somewhere, doing something and 95% of them chasing their own creation and creativity. And almost 50% having suffered or been scared with terminal illness at some point in their lives. I came back to Melbourne city and saw the same thing. We are all mice and these amazing totem animals of this festival have such a significance to our lives. They are life-saving!
I want this festival to begin to bring awareness just to how lucky we are to have mice in our life and celebrate their existence in a Melbourne International Cinema Extravaganza- MICE.
It was the beginnings of creating brilliance. Don't wait – Create! And we shall do just that with all the amazing courage of all of us working as a team of creative little mice, exhibiting dynamic, wonderful, International films and in turn celebrate the life-saving mice!”
